Orbital Pen

The mark combines a fountain pen with three orbital rings. The pen refers to proposal writing. The rings refer to document processing, retrieval, and generation. Each ring moves at a different speed while the pen remains fixed at the center.

Three lockups

The full lockup includes the wordmark. The mark-only version works at smaller sizes and as an app icon. Both variants carry the animated orbital system.

Full Lockup Animated orbital pen with emerald gradient wordmark. Rings rotate on load.
Mark Only Pen and orbits only. No wordmark. Use for favicons, app icons, avatars.
On Light Mark retains emerald glow on light backgrounds. The wordmark secondary color adapts via prefers-color-scheme.

The pen, deconstructed

The fountain pen uses a white-to-gray feather, seven horizontal barbs, a dark center line, a gold ferrule, and a tapered nib. A short highlight animation runs across the feather and nib.

BidScribe mark anatomy
A
Feather: White-to-gray gradient fill (#fff → #e5e7eb). Animated edge sweep every 2.6s creates a living shimmer.
B
Quill barbs: Seven evenly spaced horizontal strokes. They fan outward from the rachis, giving the feather its recognizable silhouette.
C
Rachis: The center line connecting the feather to the ferrule. Dark stem gradient (#1f2937 → #030712).
D
Ferrule: Gold band (#fbbf24 → #d97706). The metal collar where feather meets grip. Catches the aurora glow.
E
Grip section: Dark tapered body. Stem gradient continues through to the nib.
F
Nib: Gold gradient with animated glint. A mask-based shimmer sweeps across the nib tip, synchronized with the feather edge sweep. The point of contact with the page.

Three rings, three layers

The orbital system is the mark's signature motion. Three concentric rings rotate at different speeds and directions, creating a layered kinetic effect. A breathing pulse circle behind the pen completes the system.

Primary Ring r=35 · 9s rotation · emerald sheen gradient

The outermost orbit. Document processing layer. Clockwise rotation. The gradient sweeps around the ring, creating a comet-tail effect as it moves.

Counter Ring r=33.5 · 13s reverse rotation · 60% opacity

Knowledge retrieval layer. Counter-clockwise. Thinner stroke, offset timing. The opposing motion creates visual depth against the primary ring.

Chromatic Fringe r=34.6/35.8 · 16s/20s · cyan + violet · 35-40% opacity

Two thin accent rings, one cyan and one violet, rotate at different speeds with low opacity.

Breathing Pulse r=27.4→29.2 · 3.4s breathe · aurora radial gradient

The inner field uses a radial gradient whose opacity moves between 0.08 and 0.18 over 11 seconds.

Works at small sizes

The orbital system remains legible from 24px to full-bleed hero. At small sizes the rings simplify to concentric circles. The pen silhouette reads at any scale.

Usage rules

The Orbital Pen is a living system. These rules exist to keep it alive.

Do
Orbital rings must always animate. The mark is kinetic by definition. A static BidScribe mark is a dead BidScribe mark.
Do
The pen must always face upward. It is a writing instrument, not a pointer. The nib points down, the feather points up. Always.
Don't
Never flatten the emerald gradient to a single color. The three-stop gradient (#34d399 → #10b981 → #059669) is the brand's DNA. Respect it.
Don't
Never place the mark closer than 1.5x the mark width to any other element. Clear space is sacred. Let the orbits breathe.
Don't
Never stop the ring animations or reduce them to static strokes (except under prefers-reduced-motion, which the SVG handles natively).
Do
Embed the SVG directly or use <img> tags. The mark must render consistently across all browsers.
